Saudi Arabia’s New Super City Looks Like Shit
Saudi Arabia knows that, one day, it will run out of oil. As a country that makes most of its money from the substance, this is a terrifying prospect. That’s why they’ve invested billions of dollars into reforming and diversifying their economy.
Unfortunately, they’ve opted to do so in the dumbest ways possible. For example, the country previously announced the construction of The Line, a 105-mile long city built in, you guessed it, a single line. They also stated that they would be building a futuristic supercity called “Neom,” which, per Arabian Business, will include “a Jurassic Park-style island to be home to robot dinosaurs, glow-in-the-dark sand on the beaches [and] robotic martial arts experts as entertainment and exercise.”
As the current scaling back of The Line might indicate, these things will likely never be built, but that hasn’t stopped some from trying to maintain the facade. This woman recently posted a video about the reality of living in the city of the future, and I have to say, if this is the future, it sucks.
Influencers have started posting about their daily lives in the new Saudi city of Neom. The Saudis seem to be marketing Neom as some kind of planned suburb/encampment for wealthy Westerners: pic.twitter.com/cjncZfckxZ
